No BS goals... music, life

Even though it's almost February, I wanted to share some goals that have been bouncing around in my head. Most of these goals stem from work I started last year... It took a lot of self-searching to get to begin these goals, and I want to keep the momentum going throughout 2016 and beyond.

I have a list of a 4 tangible goals that I started this blog with, but I just decided I should  start with the real shit first. I mean, isn't the core/foundation really the most important thing? This year, I'm striving to be as honest, transparent, and no bullshit as possible. The good the bad, the everything... just my sincere perspective.

Over the years (especially in NYC) my confidence, well-being, and character has had it's share of ups and downs.  This led me to become cynical and jaded (in NYC? Surprise surprise!). How come all of these people are better than me? Have more fans than me? Are more giving than me? Can play bass faster than me?   See a trend? Me me me me... always comparing my life to others. I'm definitely NOT a happy camper when wrapped up in these comparison thoughts.

I realize that I'm the happiest when I'm working on goals (like making a song or a video), or genuinely interacting with others. And there is a HUGE difference between genuinely interacting and trying to gain likes on social media for popularity.

So, the goal for 2016.. the REAL goal, is to strengthen my character and my core. How will I go about this? By attempting to be as non-judgmental as possible. By telling the truth. By reading more. By listening to different, new music. By keeping an open mind.  By knowing the universe is infinitely larger than I can begin to comprehend. And by realizing that stating an absolute, or thinking I'm the center of something is arrogant and lazy.

Ego, comparison, being self-centered... this has led to nothing by negative consequences in my life.

Open, loving, selfless, eager, connected... THIS IS THE GOAL!

Yep

Yep

Oh yeah, so my tangible goals... here they are (even though they will only happen when I'm working towards what I just wrote about):

  • Release a 5 song Diode Sky video EP. I wrote 5 songs for a solo show at the end of last year, and want to release a live performance video of each song.

  • Play more live solo Diode Sky shows. I've grown so much from my two solo performances in 2015, I can't wait to get and and play/learn more.

  • Release bass and Ableton push tutorial videos. I want to release some tutorial videos this year, based on feedback from members of bass and Ableton forums. In general, I want to connect and give back more to the online music community.

  • Make one video game on the Unity gaming platform. Unity is a powerful free gaming engine used to make all kinds of 2d and 3d games. I've always been a fan of video games, and I've been getting more and more into coding... so I figure making a simple game would be a fun, creative, and challenging endeavor.
